Key news that we read, so you don’t have to

BBC Launch “WONDER CHASE” their hub of games from beloved shows 📺

Patricia Hidalgo, BBC’s Director of Children’s and Education:

“As the children’s media landscape is constantly evolving, we want to meet kids wherever they are.”

This huge launch sees 5 worlds being built out with games and items for fans to enjoy.

The experience has only had around 2000 visits so far, but there hasn’t been a big push with influencers just yet. With most Roblox players saying they usually find new games through creators, this might be BBC’s next step in this new venture.

Predictions

➡️ Remember BBC Bitesize Science? We think this could replace that. Roblox is investing more into education, so this could be huge for the platform!

➡️ BBC is home to some UK classics. The importance of keeping a classic going is by speaking to the next generation. This launch could keep EastEnders going for another 10 years 😉

Specsavers are the latest high-street brand to enter Roblox 🔝

👓 Online to Offline This is a great way for Specsavers to share their range of glasses, have players wear them and potentially want them IRL if they do wear specs.

👓 Integrated Obby’s Its always a weird fit when this type of brand enters Roblox. But, they are sharing their core brand ethos in a space where eyes and ears are crucial.

👓 Connect with the future As most brands say: “We want to connect with the future audience in the ways that is most natural to them” - Not everything has to be an image or video, so its great to see yet another brand take the punt.

Government begins monitoring in-game transactions 💰🔎

So, the ‘my kid used my credit card’ story is becoming more and more prevalent as games like Roblox & Fortnite continue to grow. I bought a Fortnite skin the other day, and guys, it literally took 1 second to buy it. I lost £5.99 in 1 second. Send help.

The problem with gaming currency is that they have different rules to everyday money. They adopt a ‘buyer beware’ approach, where genuine error may be ignored and money is lost into the digital ether.

Kid buys nearly 50k V-bucks using mum’s credit card (1000 vbucks = £6.99)

So this new approach from the government may mean that platforms begin making changes to make it tougher for kids to abuse their parent’s credit card.

Fortnite have capped under-13 players to spending $100 a day. Which is still $700 a week. So, there is certainly still a lot of work to do.

What’s the impact? 💥

1️⃣ For the platform, they will need to make changes that removes certain engagement/purchase triggers

2️⃣ The platforms may lean on brand partners as a layer of safety 

3️⃣ Building a new way to earn v-bucks or items?
